-Description of work. This should be a desription of all work to be done, the types of materials and finishes. A good contractor will address things shuch as weather delays or change orders.

|
-Price. Fixed-price contracts for the work to be performed should specify the total cost of the job. Cost-plus contracts should specify the cost of materials and labor.
|
|
|
-Pay Schedule. This spells out when you will pay the contractor. Do not put down more then $1,500 at the time of the signing of the contract.

|
-Dates. A schedule of when work begins and ends.
|
|
|
-Right of Recision. This gives the homeowner the right to back out of the contract whithin 72 hours of signing.
|
|
|
-Warranty. Look for a guarantee that the labor and materials are free from defects, preferably up to one year.
|
|
|
-An Arbitration Clause. You and the contrator agree on and name a method for resolving disputes.
|
|
|
-Release of Liens Affidavit. This assures homeowners they won't be slapped with any liens or charges to pay debts that may be filed against the contractor.
